ACH Bill Pay Rewards

tl;dr: Fold+ subscribers earn up to 1.5% rewards on Bill Payments made with your Fold account and routing number. The more you spend on Fold, the more rewards-eligible spending you get via ACH Bill Payments.

ACH rewards are a loyalty reward earned by using Fold. You earn the ability to earn rewards on ACH payments by completing:

  • bitcoin buys
  • Gift Card purchases
  • Fold Prepaid Debit Card transactions

 

How do I earn rewards?

Each dollar you spend using your Fold debit card earns you a dollar of Qualified Spend, which is used to determine the amount of ACH Bill Payments eligible for rewards in the following month.

Spending normally on Fold by doing the following earns you eligible ACH rewards :

  1. Buying Bitcoin
  2. Buying Gift Cards
  3. Using your Fold Debit Card on the Visa network for daily purchases 

Examples:

  • Spend $5000 on Fold in August, get $5000 worth of ACH Bill Payments eligible for rewards in September.
  • Spend $7500 on Fold in September, get $7500 worth of ACH Bill Payments eligible for rewards in October.

Each ACH Bill Payment you make will earn up to 1.5% depending on your previous month's spending tier (shown in table below).

 

How much can I earn?

You can earn up to 1.5% back on your ACH Bill Payments. You'll get 0.25% back up to your previous month's spend, with the potential to boost the rewards on your first $2,500.

Once you exceed the previous month's spend, the reward rate will be 0%.

Example:

  • You spend $5,500 in qualifying transactions in August.
  • You have $7,000 worth of ACH bills in September.

So when September comes around:

  1. On your first $2,500 of ACH Bill Payments your reward rate will be 0.5%.
  2. On dollars $2,501 through $5,500 of ACH Bill Payments, your reward rate will be 0.25%.
  3. On dollars $5,501 through $7000 of ACH Bill Payments, your reward rate will be 0.00%

 

What spending with Fold contributes to the amount of my ACH payments that are eligible for rewards?

(Note: Spending is calculated based on UTC time. Example 0000 UTC October 1st to 2359 UTC October 31st. UTC is 5 hours ahead of EST and 4 hours ahead of EDT)

  1. All bitcoin purchases
  2. All gift card purchases made using your Fold card balance count 2X! (Eg. Buy a $500 gift card get $1000 towards ACH Bill Pay Rewards)
  3. Qualifying unboosted Fold Card transactions

What spending doesn't contribute to my ACH Bill Payments that are eligible for rewards?

  1. Fold Card transactions that are already in a Boosted Category
  2. Non-Visa Signature transactions (PIN debit transactions)
  3. Previous ACH Payments

Generally, for Debit Card spending, this means:

  • if you see 0.5% in the 'Category Boost' section of your transaction details, it will count
  • if you don't see any rewards for 'Category Boost' or it's greater than 0.5%, it won't count

 

How do I know what rewards I will earn?

On the first of each month, you'll receive an email letting you know how much you spent during the previous month.

This will tell you:

  • qualifying spend in the previous month
  • how much in rewards-eligible ACH Bill Payments you'll have for the current month
  • your tier for the current month
  • what your rewards rate will be on your first $2,500 and beyond

 

What is an ACH Bill Payment and how do I do it?

ACH Payments are payments made from one bank to another. You can do this using your account and routing number. To see your account and routing numbers, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Fold app
  2. Tap the menu hamburger in the top left corner
  3. Under the Banking heading, tap Direct deposit

If these instructions do not match the options visible in your current version of the Fold app, please follow our standard troubleshooting steps to ensure you are getting the most up-to-date experience in the app!

 

The process may vary from biller to biller, but follow these steps to make a payment:

  1. Log-in to biller portal
  2. Navigate to pay bill section
  3. Add payment method (note: you can not use plaid or other "log - in based" linking methods, must do manually by account and routing number)
  4. Select "pay by bank", "e-check", "bank transfer", "ACH payment", or similar
  5. If it asks you what kind of account, select "checking"
  6. Enter your account and routing number
  7. Submit Payment

Note: depending on your biller, they may need to verify your account with microdeposits when you add a payment method.

 

Why are my ACH Rewards less than expected?

There are some qualifications that must be met in order to receive these rewards:

  1. You must be a Fold+ member for the entire month, beginning at 00:00 UTC on the 1st of any given month.

    Turning off auto-renewal may impact your ability to earn ACH rewards, because if your membership expires or lapses, you will be unable to earn rewards until the following month. If you upgrade to Fold+ in the middle of a month, you will not begin to earn rewards on ACH payments until the following month.

     

  2. You must have had enough qualified spend in the month preceding the ACH payment to cover the transaction. 

    Qualified spend is recorded as any Visa Signature purchase that settled in the previous month, and only received the base 0.5% category reward. Debit card transactions that received a category boost do not count toward this total. Bitcoin purchases, including all automations, and gift card transactions using your Fold debit card are also counted towards your monthly qualified spend.

     

  3. Your current monthly ACH payments have exceeded your previous month's qualified spend. 

    You can only earn rewards on up to your total qualified spend in the previous month. For example, if you had $5,000 in qualified spend in the previous month, you will earn 0.5% on the first $2,500 of total ACH payments, then 0.25% on the remaining $2,500 total ACH spend. Anything after $5,000 in total ACH spend will receive 0 rewards.

     

Qualified spend does not roll over month to month, so you must use it or lose it.
