How do I buy bitcoin on Fold?

There are four ways to buy bitcoin on Fold:

  1. Spot buys (single purchases)
  2. Auto-stack (DCA)
  3. Round-Ups
  4. Direct-to-Bitcoin

 

To get started, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Fold app
  2. Tap Bitcoin or the exchange tab in the middle of the bottom nav bar

Bitcoin buying automations

Fold's bitcoin automations is a set of bitcoin buying tools you can use to simplify buying bitcoin on Fold. They're like having a smart assistant that buys bitcoin for you automatically, based on rules you set. So you can save time, reduce stress about when to buy, and steadily build your investment. Our automation options are: auto-stack, round-ups, and direct to bitcoin.

 

What fees do I pay to buy bitcoin on Fold?

Fold+ Subscriber Fees

For Fold+ subscribers, there are no fees on direct bitcoin purchases within the Fold app. Please note: this does not apply to Fold Bitcoin Gift Card redemptions.

Basic Fees

For free Fold users, there is a 1% fee to purchase bitcoin through an Auto-Stack and a 1.5% fee to purchase bitcoin through a spot buy.

Spread

How long does it take for my purchase to process?

Generally, purchases should be processed within 1 hour. However, things like demand and network congestion can impact how long it takes the bitcoin to reach your wallet. If your purchase has not finished processing within 24 hours, please reach out to our support team at support@foldapp.com for further assistance.
 

How do I withdraw bitcoin purchased on Fold?

Once your Bitcoin purchase is no longer pending, usually after a brief holding period, you are able to initiate a withdrawal to any external wallet.

On the withdrawal page, you have the option to scan a QR code to your destination wallet to make your withdrawal easier and more secure.

What fees do I pay to withdraw bitcoin purchased on Fold?

When you make a withdrawal, the total bitcoin deducted from your account includes the 'amount' you specified and the Bitcoin network fees displayed on this page. Can I sell bitcoin on Fold?

Yes; use the Sell button to convert your bitcoin on Fold to USD on your Fold Card. Fold+ users pay no fees to use this feature.

Who provides bitcoin custodial services for Fold?

BitGo is the sole custodial partner for all bitcoin related services on the Fold platform. All bitcoin is held in an on-chain address at BitGo in cold storage with $250M in insurance coverage.
 

Why can't I buy bitcoin on Fold?

Before you can purchase bitcoin through the Fold app, you must:

  • Sign up for a Fold account, and be verified.
  • Fold verified users must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Fold verified users must reside in the United States.
