Lightning Network payments

  • Should I pay on-chain or with Lightning?

The Lightning Network allows almost instant, low-fee transactions so we highly recommend shifting to Lightning for your payments. Remember that the Lightning Network is still under development and to never hold more funds than you are prepared to lose in your Lightning wallet.

  • What is Lightning?

The Lightning Network is a fast, low fee way to pay with Bitcoin.  Please check the Lightning section of our FAQs for more information on how to get set up.

  • What's the difference between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Lightning?

The Lightning Network is built as a second layer above the Bitcoin base chain to facilitate fast transactions with low fees.  Bitcoin is the currency used in both, but Lightning transactions are often denominated in satoshis (one hundred millionth of a single bitcoin - 0.00000001 BTC), or "sats" for short.

  • How do I set up a Lightning wallet?

You will need to send an on-chain transaction to initially fund the Lightning wallet before you can transact on the Lightning Network.  Below are a few examples of available wallets which walk you through further setup:

  • How do I open a channel with you?

Our node currently has a 0.05 BTC minimum to open a new channel to us. Our node URL is available in the app under the Account tab.

We recommend opening a channel to nodes that have good liquidity with us and no minimum channel size such as OpenNode or Radar.

  • If I have a channel with ln.pizza, can I make payments to Fold?

Yes, currently we use the same Lightning node to accept payments for Fold and ln.pizza. However, opening a direct channel is not a requirement to pay us with Lightning.

We recommend opening a channel to nodes that have good liquidity with us and no minimum channel size such as OpenNode or Radar.

  • Do you charge a routing fee?

    No.
