Getting a Fold Card

  • Where will the Fold Card be available?

Currently, the Fold Card is only available in the United States. But stay tuned! We hope to add additional countries in the future.  Note that you must be 18 years or older and a resident of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia to be eligible for the Fold Card.

  • How do I get a Fold Card?

(We are currently in beta. If you do not see "Get the Fold Card," join the waitlist to be notified when more spots are open.)

Fill out an application in the Fold App, and we will immediately issue you a virtual card!  We will notify you when physical cards are ready to ship.  There’s no credit check.

To activate the card account, you will be required to provide your name, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We must collect this information in accordance with The USA PATRIOT Act, a federal law that requires all financial institutions and their third-party service providers to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens a card account.

  • How do I open a Fold Card account?

It’s easy and takes just a few minutes!

Download the free Fold App from the Apple or Google Play store.  Once you have created an account in the app, select the “Fold Card” tab, and click “Get the Fold Card”, and select which card you want.

We will then need to confirm your identity. To do this, we securely and quickly gather additional information from you, including your Social Security number, address, and date of birth.  Once we have verified your identity, you pay for your tier, and that’s it!

To start making the most of your account, you should link your card with an external bank account and transfer funds or set up direct deposit. Note that you must be 18 years or older and a resident of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia to be eligible for Fold.

  • How much does it cost to get a Fold Card?

For the Intro tier, there is a one-time $21 activation fee. For the Premium tier, there is a $150 annual fee.

The fees must be paid prior to ordering and activating a Fold Debit card. To view the pricing information and other costs associated with using the card, see our fee schedule.

  • How long do I have to wait to use my Fold Card?

Good news! You can start using your virtual card immediately after your application is accepted. This allows you to shop online.

  • What do I do when I receive my card in the mail?

When your card arrives, activate it. You can activate it in the Fold App or call our automated line at 1-833-904-2761.

You can also set up direct deposit by filling out the form included with your card and providing it to your employer. Set up direct deposit any time with the routing number and account number found in the Fold App.

  • Why am I not eligible for a Fold Card?

If you apply and receive a message that says we can’t verify your identity, it’s likely due to one or more of the following reasons, which are primarily for your security:

    • We are not able to verify your identity with the information provided.
    • If you were prompted to give answers pertaining to your ID, the authentication answers didn’t match our cross-check with public records.
    • You don’t meet the minimum age requirement (18) for membership.
    • You used a PO Box as your address.  Please use a non-PO box address.
    • There was a technical issue with the app. You can re-apply if you received an error message indicating that the app had timed out ("Something went wrong").

Sometimes when you receive an ineligibility message, you will be prompted to double-check your information and try again. Mistypes of your info can sometimes cause identity verification issues.
