The largest expenses in most households earn no rewards at all. Rent. Utilities. Mortgage. Recurring bills. They are predictable, unavoidable, and until now, completely unrewarded.
Fold Reserve is a rewards program built around your entire financial life. Spending, paying bills, buying gifts, purchasing bitcoin.
What makes Reserve worth it is what it unlocks. Reserve gives you bigger rewards on your Fold card transactions, bill pay, and bitcoin buying.
Almost nobody rewards bill pay. With Reserve, we can reward some of the biggest expenses in your life, like your mortgage, rent, and tuition.
Reserve is for money you plan to use across Fold in the near term. It isn't FDIC-insured, and it isn't meant to replace your long-term savings.
What is Fold Reserve?
Fold Reserve is prepaid value you purchase from Fold and can use inside the app. Redeem it for bitcoin or for gift cards. Your Reserve tier sets your rewards rate on card spend and bill pay.
What Fold Reserve is not
Not a savings account
Not a deposit account
Not a subscription
Not staking
How do I use my Reserve?
- Buy bitcoin: Redeem your Reserve directly for bitcoin.
- Buy gift cards: Use your Reserve to purchase gift cards in Fold.
- Transfer to cash: Your Reserve buys bitcoin, which is immediately sold for dollars and transferred to your Fold checking balance, where you can use it to pay bills, make debit purchases, or withdraw. Any gain or loss is expected to be negligible but may still be reportable for tax purposes.
What the Reserve balance unlocks
Credit card rewards up to 5% back in bitcoin**
Debit card rewards up to 3% back in bitcoin**
Bill pay rewards up to 3% back in bitcoin**
Zero-fee bitcoin exchange*
Bitcoin back on every gift card purchase
*Some spread is still included. A "spread" is a small markup built into the bitcoin price. The partner spread remains across the board, but the Fold spread goes away at Tier 1 of Reserve.
**Anything above the Reserve Balance Tier, eg. $5,000, earns 1.5% on credit, 0.25% on debit and nothing on bill pay. The rewards boost also goes to one card only (credit OR debit, but not both), and if the customer has a credit card, the rewards will automatically default to the credit card over the debit card. The 5% rate requires the Fold Bitcoin Credit Card and a $100,000 Fold Reserve balance, and applies to your first $5,000 in eligible purchases each month. 1.5% back in bitcoin on eligible purchases, with no cap. Rewards are earned on your eligible spend, not on your balance. Holding a Fold Reserve balance can boost your rate on your first $5,000 in eligible purchases each calendar month. Eligible purchases above that amount, and all eligible purchases if you do not hold a qualifying Reserve balance, earn the 1.5% base rate. You earn a boost on only one card at a time. Rewards are provided by Fold, not Celtic Bank. Rates are subject to change. See the Cardholder Agreement and our Terms and Conditions. The Fold Bitcoin Credit Cardâ„¢ is issued by Celtic Bank, pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc.

Someone with nothing in Reserve can still get:
0.25% bitcoin rewards on debit, where most debit cards earn nothing
1.5% bitcoin rewards on credit
A great bitcoin exchange
The difference is fees and perks, not card rewards.
$5,000 is the entry tier, called Tier 1. Reaching it removes most fees but doesn't raise credit or debit card reward rates. Those only go up from $15,000. Please note that dropping below $5,000 in Reserve triggers fees on the very next transaction.
What stays the same at $0 and $5,000
- Credit card rewards: 1.5% base, no spending cap.
- Debit card rewards: 0.25% base, no spending cap.
- Instant debit deposits and withdrawals: 1.5% fee, with a $0.25 minimum on withdrawals. This isn't waived at any tier.
Is Fold a bank? Is this FDIC insured?
No. Fold is not a bank. Reserve is prepaid value you purchase from Fold. It is not a deposit, it is not FDIC insured, and the amounts you pay for Reserve are not held for you in a separate or custodial account. Reserve and Fold's offered debit and/or checking account are separate products with separate terms.
Does Reserve pay interest?
No. Reserve does not pay interest or yield, and it is not a savings or investment product. Reserve adds rewards to spending you were already going to do.
How do tiers work?
Your tier is set by the amount of Reserve you hold and determines your rewards rate. Using your Reserve to buy bitcoin or gift cards can move you to a lower tier. Rates and tier thresholds are set out in the Fold Reserve Terms and Conditions and may change upon notice.
Rewards are paid in bitcoin. What does that mean for me?
Bitcoin's price moves, and rewards you receive can be worth more or less later than when you received them. Fold does not provide investment or tax advice. Rewards are subject to Fold's Terms and Conditions.
When can I move my rewards?
Rewards become available to withdraw 30 days after the purchase settles.
