You can send a gift card to someone else in the Fold app either during purchase or after purchasing. Both options are simple and recipients do not need a Fold account to use the card.
Sending from the Fold app
Please follow these instructions to send a gift card as a gift via the Fold app:
- Open the Fold app
- Navigate to the Gift cards tab
- Choose the brand of gift card you want to purchase
- Choose the amount you want to purchase
- Tap the Continue button
- Using the drop-down option under the gift card denomination, set the payment method you want to use
- Before tapping the Confirm buy button, select Send as a gift
- You will then be prompted to choose the method of delivery: by text message or email.
- Enter the recipient’s contact details and, if you wish, a personalized message.
- Tap the Send gift button
- Tap the Confirm buy button
- The recipient will receive your personalized method along with instructions for how to redeem your gift. For the best personalization, we recommend sending a gift from the Fold app.
If these instructions do not match the options visible in your current version of the Fold app, please follow our standard troubleshooting steps to ensure you are getting the most up-to-date experience in the app!
Sending after purchase
If you've already purchased a gift card, you can still send it by following the below steps:
- Locate your purchase confirmation email and click on either the "View your card" or "Send as a gift" button.
- You can then send the gift card by entering the recipient's email address and an optional message.
- The recipient will receive an email with your gift note and redemption instructions. However, since we do not collect the recipient's or the gift giver's information, this email will be less personalized than one sent through the Fold app.
Please note: text delivery is not available when sending a gift card after purchase.
Important: Cards gifted by this method will still be visible in your Fold account under the “Gift Cards” tab, even after gifting. Be careful not to spend the card yourself, as it will still be accessible in your account.
Do recipients need a Fold account to redeem a gifted card?
With the exception of the Fold Bitcoin Gift Card, a gift recipient will not need a Fold account to use their gift card. (See the Fold Bitcoin Gift Card account requirements to learn more.)
